HKBU holds a talk in Tokyo and exchanges ideas with Japanese companies in the field of deep tech

Mr Raymond Chan, Assistant Director (Entrepreneurship) of the Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), delivered a talk at Venture Café Tokyo in Japan on 10 July. The talk, titled "Unlocking mega funds from Hong Kong: A financial gateway for Japan's deep tech research into global markets," explored how the financial resources in Hong Kong can be leveraged alongside with Japan's deep tech research to open up the global market in a challenging international environment.

The talk brought together industry leaders, representatives from investment institutions and startups from Japan and overseas. Mr Chan delivered a detailed analysis on Hong Kong's unique advantages as an international financial centre, particularly focusing on the system and market environment that support the operation of large-scale funds. He shared Hong Kong’s core competitiveness in terms of capital scale, professional services and international networks, emphasising how these resources can provide crucial support for Japanese deep tech startups at various stages of development. He also provided several suggestions and innovative solutions, engaging participants in discussions on how to address the diverse challenges of the current international market.

Additionally, Mr Chan shared the mission and vision of the Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research of HKBU, focusing on translation of academic research into practical applications and the promotion of innovative practices that foster cross-region and transdisciplinary exchanges. Participants further discussed the investment trends in the deep tech sector.

This event provided a platform for networking and idea exchange between Hong Kong and Japan in the field of deep tech, injecting new impetus into the development of the technology industry. It reinforces the University’s crucial position to foster international research engagement and knowledge translation.
