A delegation from the Guangdong Academy of Sciences (GDAS), led by President Chen Weimin, recently visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for in-depth exchanges and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant advancement in the collaboration between the two organisations. The delegation, which included Vice President Zhu Honghui and heads of research institutes, received a warm reception from HKBU’s senior management, comprising Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer; and Professor Michael Ng, Dean of the Faculty of Science.
During the visit, the delegation toured HKBU’s Visualization Research Centre and Life Science Imaging Centre, gaining detailed insights into the university’s innovative achievements and cutting-edge facilities in fields such as technology in visualisation , Future Cinema Systems, and life science imaging. Discussions were held on the potential for research, development and application of these technologies.
Following the tour, the two parties convened a meeting and signed an MoU. Professor Wai emphasised HKBU’s strengths and recent progress in facilitating transdisciplinary research, including Chinese medicine, chemistry and biology. He pointed out that this visit has established a robust foundation for the partnership, expressing optimism that by leveraging their respective strengths, both institutions can drive technological innovation and industrial advancement in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
President Chen expressed his gratitude for HKBU’s research capabilities and innovative environment. He introduced GDAS's achievements in scientific research, platform development, and the commercialisation of research outcomes. He is eager to merge GDAS’s expertise in commercialization and industrialization with HKBU’s foundational research capabilities, thereby collectively infusing scientific and technological vitality into the GBA's growth.
This cooperation stands as a notable joint effort by HKBU and GDAS in actively aligning with the GBA development strategy. Its objective is to amalgamate the complementary strengths and resources of both institutions to bolster the region's scientific and technological innovation capacity. Through sustained and stable collaboration, we aspire to contribute to the GBA's progression as an international hub for technology and innovation.
