HKBU rising filmmaker shines Belgian Days 2025

The Institute for Innovation and Translation of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) collaborated with the Consulate General of Belgium in Hong Kong to host a student film screening to promote cinematic culture exchange during Belgian Days 2025. Miss Chan Ho Yi from HKBU Academy of Film presented her short film at the screening event held on 18 November. Her film received the ‘Best Movie from Hong Kong’ award from the Consulate General of Belgium.

Her film, “Thereafter”, depicts the unspoken tension between a 15-year-old girl who gives birth to a baby at school and her father. The film explores how their bond survives between love and guilt. Another award-winning film by a graduate of Institut Supérieur des Arts (INSAS) was also showcased. The screening concluded with an enriching dialogue between the two directors and guests from the film industry.
