HKBU connects with global investors to pave the way for deep-tech acceleration

The Institute for Innovation and Translation (IIT) recently hosted a delegation from Gobi Partners and the Shenzhen Angel Fund of Funds (Shenzhen Angel FOF). The visit served as a powerful catalyst for building a strategic relationship aimed at accelerating the growth of deep-tech ventures.

The engagement began with an immersive tour of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU)'s pioneering research and innovative art technology facilities, Studio 5 and the White Box. The delegation, including  ShenZhen Angel FOF Chairman Mrs Chi Dongyan; Deputy General Manager Mr Liu Xiangning; Gobi Partners Managing Director Mrs Renee Pan and Managing Director and Head of University Ventures  Mr Fred Li were particularly impressed by HKBU's strategic emphasis and significant investment in these creative technology domains, recognising the University's commitment to fostering interdisciplinary excellence and cultivating the next generation of talent.

In the subsequent strategic meeting, IIT showcased our pivotal role in accelerating entrepreneurship at HKBU. We detailed the robust ecosystem we are building to translate groundbreaking research into ventures with tangible societal and economic value. The delegation identified two of our key strategic research clusters—health tech and art tech—as areas of significant interest for collaboration. This shared vision sets the stage for impactful future initiatives.

We are immensely grateful to Gobi Partners, whose invaluable introduction catalysed this engagement and laid the groundwork for a dynamic partnership. This visit has successfully established a strong foundation, revealing the powerful synergy between HKBU, Shenzhen Angel FOF and Gobi Partners. Moving forward, we are ready to transform this potential into action by exploring collaborative initiatives to support and scale the next generation of deep-tech ventures together.
