IIT joins  “IVS EXTREME OUTBOUND” Forum to explore cross-boundary innovation exchanges

24 April 2026

Institute for Innovation and Translation (IIT) of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) co-hosted the “IVS EXTREME OUTBOUND” Crossing Boundaries Innovation Forum: Japan x Greater Bay Area with Headline Asia on 23 April. Held in Hong Kong, the event brought together entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders from various regions to explore new models of cross-boundary innovation and technology exchange.

During the forum, Mr Raymond Chan, Assistant Director (Entrepreneurship) of IIT, engaged in a dialogue with Mr Morgan Wong, advisor at Headline Asia and moderator, on the topic “Cross-boundary Co‑creation, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer: Collaboration Models Among Universities, Venture Capital, and Industry Partners in East Asia.” Drawing on HKBU’s  extensive experience in deep-tech research and technology translation, Mr Chan illustrated how universities can serve as strategic bridges connecting interdisciplinary research, venture capital, and industry, while exploring the potential for innovation synergy across different regions.

Three representatives from Headline Asia’s portfolio companies shared their experiences in cross-market development, offering valuable insights into the realities of building and scaling businesses across these markets. From the perspective of an academic and research institution, IIT highlighted Hong Kong’s unique advantages as a gateway to the regional research and development ecosystem, as well as showcased IIT’s joint research models in life sciences, artificial intelligence, and other fields, facilitating meaningful dialogue and engagement.

IIT remains dedicated to building trusted platforms that connect university research, top-tier talent, and industry expertise, meeting an essential need as East Asia unleashes its potential in deep-tech and cross-boundary innovation.

We would like to thank our co-hosting partner Headline Asia, sponsor WVinery, and venue sponsor Eaton Club. IIT looks forward to continuing these cross-boundary exchanges on the international stage in the future.
