HKBU and FSC forge innovative partnerships and impactful collaborations with supranational bodies

20 November 2025

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Food Safety Consortium (FSC), the knowledge transfer vehicle of HKBU, participated in the 48th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission in Rome from 10 to12 November.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission, an international body established by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) to develop food standards, advocating for a holistic and evidence-based approach to advancing food safety and public health. Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer of HKBU and Chairman of FSC, along with Ms Nelly Lam, Director of FSC, joined other Codex Alimentarius members and observers to discuss and explore innovative technologies for a safer and more sustainable global food supply.

The delegation continued the tour at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization headquarters in Vienna, where the team explored key areas for enhancing global food safety, sustainability, food as medicine, and related fields. Discussion focused on fostering closer innovation, partnership, and technology development and application to fulfil unmet needs, drive meaningful changes, and maximise societal impact.

We look forward to leveraging these collaborations to develop lasting solutions for a sustainable future.
