The Food Safety Consortium (FSC), the knowledge transfer vehicle of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), has proudly received the distinguished 2025 Best Overall Affiliate Meeting Award from the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP). This esteemed award recognises an affiliate that excels in hosting a comprehensive meeting addressing diverse and cutting-edge topics in food safety — a testament to FSC’s leadership and dedication within the global food safety community.
In May 2024, FSC jointly organised the inaugural FoodMed Conference with HKBU, with the mission to explore science, technology, and holistic approaches for health. FoodMed 2024 brought together 300 researchers, practitioners, industry innovators, investors, experts, and regulatory officials from the fields of food and Chinese medicine. It unraveled the scientific basis, regulatory framework, and safety and quality issues in the global stage of food as medicine, and discussed emerging innovation and validation, technology translation, and business opportunities in building the future of food as medicine.
The award was presented on July 27 2025, at the Affiliate Council Meeting held during the IAFP 2025 Annual Meeting in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer of HKBU and Chairman of FSC and Ms Nelly Lam, Assistant Director (Strategic Alliance and Promotion) of HKBU and Director of FSC, accepted the award amidst this occasion of more than 3,500 global food safety experts. “This award is a powerful recognition of FSC’s unwavering commitment to advancing food safety worldwide through knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships. It also signifies HKBU’s rising influence and meaningful contributions to shaping the future of food safety,” said Professor Lau. The event served as a vibrant platform for sharing breakthrough research, addressing emerging challenges, and fostering collaboration on innovative solutions in the field.
HKBU and FSC also exhibited at the IAFP Marketplace, which connects IAFP professionals worldwide on food safety in Asia. The topic of food as medicine, and more specifically - how scientific and evidence-based approach could unlock the potential of Chinese Medicine for holistic healthcare - was explored and discussed among international experts.
Together, HKBU and FSC continue to drive progress, ensuring safer food and healthier communities around the world.
