HKBU Showcases Pioneering Food Security Solutions at ASEANSafe2025

24 November 2025

The Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research (ITPR) at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Food Safety Consortium participated in ASEANSafe2025, a pivotal conference addressing global food security and safety, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 19–20 November.

During the event, Professor Terence Lau, HKBU Interim Chief Innovation Officer, shared the importance of university technology translation and transfer and introduced rapid diagnostics for emerging pathogens and antimicrobial resistance using automated molecular diagnostics to detect and tackle zoonotic threats early which is vital for resilient food supply chains.

Dr Teresa Chung, Assistant Project Manager at ITPR also presented a machine learning system for non-targeted detection of food adulterants, which identifies unknown adulterants without targeted testing, combating fraud in complex food supply chains - a revolutionary approach to food authenticity.
