HKBU and FSC join global efforts to advance food safety

11 July 2026

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Food Safety Consortium (FSC) participated in the 49th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC49) in Geneva from 6-10 July, where Codex members review and adopt food standards, labeling requirements, food safety guidelines, and other Codex texts proposed by the subsidiary committees.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission is an international body established by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and World Health Organization to adopt food safety and quality standards for protecting consumer health and facilitating fair food trade. Representing HKBU and FSC, Professor Terence Lau, HKBU’s Interim Chief Innovation Officer and Chairman of FSC and Ms Nelly Lam, Assistant Director (Strategic Alliance and Promotion) of HKBU’s Institute for Innovation and Translation and Director of FSC, attended with a shared mission: to address food safety challenges through innovations, applied technologies, and collaborations with stakeholders across the globe.

Building on this spirit of international dialogue and partnership, we look forward to hosting the 2nd FoodMed Conference in Hong Kong on 5-6 November 2026 – bringing together regulators, researchers, and industry professionals to explore the intersection of food, Chinese medicine, and healthcare that how science, technology and holistic approaches can share a heathier future.
